Do you believe in Miracles?

Today’s my birthday, and I want to talk about miracles. A birth is a miraculous occasion, although I never really thought of it that way until I had kids of my own.

That was one of the times I experienced a miracle.

Many other occasions are miraculous. A  near-miss at an intersection. Cancer caught early.  I’ve experienced those in my own life. More recently, a family member experienced a miracle, but more about that in a minute.

Is a miracle divinely orchestrated or a mere coincidence?

When something happens that shouldn’t have, could it be caused from a force outside of our understanding? Or do things simply align by coincidence at random times?

I believe in miracles, and now I want to share about the one I mentioned a minute ago. See what you think.

Nothing short of a miracle

My dad was at home alone one evening. He had just gotten off the phone with the apartment manager who was offering to bring dinner to my dad. The manager is the type of guy who fills every meal with meat, but for some reason had made a vegetarian dinner and knew my dad’s a vegetarian.

The manager sent the meal over with someone else, who called and said that my dad wasn’t home. The manager said he was – he’d just gotten off the phone with him. The manager ran to my dad’s apartment with the key and went in.

My dad was on the floor unresponsive. No pulse could be found.

Immediately, the manager began CPR and the other guy called 911. In a few minutes the ambulance arrived and brought his heartbeat back with a defibrillator.

Happy endings

I’m happy to say that my dad is alive and is now on the road to recovery. It’s been a long road since that day in early November, but without that miracle, he wouldn’t even be with us.

So many things worked out that really make no sense. Under ordinary circumstances no one would have visited my dad until it was far too late. A meat lover happened to make a vegetarian dish that night and bring it to my dad … at the same time he had a massive heart attack and a stroke.

I don’t believe for a moment that any of it was a coincidence.

It was a miracle.
