Day Sixteen: 150k Words in a Month #NaNoWriMo #My150NaNo

I started my second novel of the month today. Now my screenshots don’t show the total word count for the month, but I can tell you. I’m up to 79,930 words for the month. If I would have realized how close I was to 80k, I would have added a few more.

Oh, well.

It was a rough start this morning. I began a new novel in a totally different genre. I love switching between genres but sometimes it takes a day or so to get myself in the right head space.

Going from dragons, vampires, and epic battles to contemporary sweet romance can be a bit of a challenge. Especially since I didn’t have adequate time to outline for this new one. But by this afternoon, I got my groove back on.

Thankfully I’m also working on the second draft of a book in this same series right now, so my mind is at least in the same world. I just have a new set of main characters to get to know and sometimes the beginning of a book like that can be similar to meeting someone for the first time.

The conversation can be a bit awkward. Or is that just me? Anyway, I threw one main character into a funny situation to help get things going. It seemed to help. Sometimes you just have to get creative.

So, where am I at right now with all of my WIP’s (works in progress)?

  • Just starting Seaside Dances today
  • Working on the second draft of Seaside Heartbeats (and totally loving this story!)
  • Just finished writing the 8th book of the Transformed series. Killer ending! I cannot wait to hear the reactions of readers. Will start in on the second draft after I send Seaside Heartbeats out to beta readers.
  • Recently sent Dean’s List to beta readers. So far, the feedback I’ve received has been fabulous!
  • Published Destroyed last week. Friday? Saturday? Can’t remember!
  • Will probably start writing book 9 of the Transformed series next because with the ending of number 8, readers are going to want the next book right away! I was going to write a novella with some side characters, but I can’t do that to my fans.

  1. Over 6500 for the day!
That’s just incredible. Especially when there are some authors that try to sell something not much longer than that as a book.
Switching in a day is good. I read Orson Scott Card needs a week or two to release himself from a book’s world before he switches to the next.
Have you done a 7K day yet? You were nearly there.

    1. Thanks, James! I actually broke 7k the day before I wrote this post – on day fifteen. I wrote 7,353 to be exact. I was bent on finishing my novel that day, and that was the number of words needed. I think it was my second time passing 7k. Crazy stuff! Although not as insane as an author I know online who routinely writes 11-12k a day. Doubt I’ll catch up to her, at least not any time soon!
