I’ve been full time for a whole two and a half weeks now…and I couldn’t be more excited! I worked HARD to get here, and every sacrifice was well worth it.
I started writing my first novel in April 2012, and I published it in late November 2012. I spent a lot of time learning everything I could about the craft of writing and the business side of marketing. The experts spoke, and I acted.
The journey has been long, and I’ve learned a lot. My writing has improved by leaps and bounds since that first novel. I love writing now more than ever. Working is fun. I’m amazed that writing stories pays the bills now.
That’s super-crazy awesome. It’s unreal, except that it is real.
When I started writing with the intent to indie-publish, I kept hearing that it takes about two years to make a living from it. So, I held onto that time-frame and made my goals accordingly. I even gave myself some extra time, setting my sights on April 2015. I went full-time and closed my 12-year-old business two months early.
Well, enough about that. If you want to know more about how I went from clueless first time writer to a full-timer, take a listen to my recent interview on the Self Publishing Round Table:
