Iceland plays a crucial role for vampires everywhere. It’s the birthplace of the first ones ever born: The Fyrsturae. They were born at a pivotal time in human history that has long been forgotten.
Three thousand years ago, an Icelandic fellow named Larus Hinriksson fell in love with a Nagini (half-serpent who has the ability to control weather) and brought her back to Iceland with him. At his request, she changed the climate from icy cold to green and lush. Long story short, there was soon a war raging between the Nagini and the people and supernatural creatures of Iceland. The Nagini flooded villages and burned woodlands. Many Icelanders fled while others stayed, living in fear.
Larus, angry at what happened to his homeland and that the Nagini were trying to take his beloved, sought help from the Asrai (water faeries who melt when they enter sunlight) and Atcen (ogres who eat humans at night). What no one saw coming was the beautiful faeries and ugly ogres falling in love. The result was the birth of the Fyrsturae, the first vampires.
Though the Fyrsturae have moved around the world a lot (and spent a thousand years dead) they still consider Iceland home, and often refer to it simply as the homeland. They still have a massive mansion there, tucked away from prying eyes, that they travel to when they need to get away.
Now, I’ll bet that’s a piece of Icelandic history you never read about in your history books! If you were a descendant of the Fyrsturae, one of the royal class, then it would have been required reading in your vampire history books.

Vampire history books sound so much more interesting than normal ones 🙂

I couldn’t agree more! The ones I read usually bored me to tears!
Iceland, home of the vampires. Nice. 🙂
Could be why they’re notoriously cold…. I’m sure it has nothing to do with them being dead!
Now I like the idea of that required reading 🙂

Me too! 😉
I’ve seen so many dramatic photos of the landscape in Iceland. Seems a perfect setting for this!

There are so many nice pictures of Iceland. I really want to go there – and see the land of my own ancestry!
I am totally loving the photos you choose. That one is absolutely gorgeous. I’d love to go to Iceland.
Thanks! It’s fun to find just the right photo. Some of the ones coming up are pretty cool too.
What a lovely photo!
I agree! 🙂
Cool. I didn’t know Iceland was the birthplace of vampire lore. Neat post. 🙂
It is in the Transformed world! 😉
