Character Interview

Character interview – Chloe

Chloe’s with me today to answer a few questions so the readers can get to know her better. Thanks for agreeing to an interview, Chloe.

No problem. But I think the book says it all. It pretty much exposes all my dirty little secrets so I don’t know what else I can tell you. It’ll be hard for me to improve the impression I’ve made, won’t it?

Well, let’s start with first impressions, then. What impression do you think you make on people when they first meet you? How about after they’ve known you for a while?

Most people usually think I’m a bimbo who’s all about fun and partying, a bit on the slutty side because I’ve had a few boyfriends. And after they get to know me they know I’m a bimbo … (laughter) No, kidding. I think they think of me as this poised, new agey girl who spends way too much time thinking about what other people are thinking. They also think I’m the coolest person ever.

What are you most proud of about your life?

Having the best friends. And keeping them. Because I think that confirms to me that I must be doing something right.

Tell me about your best friend.

Isabelle is a terrific artist, her paintings blow me away every time. She’s also the most loyal person I know. She always has my back, even when I don’t deserve it. But she can be indecisive. She doesn’t always know what she wants – Harper? Hello? – and it’s at these moments that I come in and help her out. (Evil grin.)

What’s the worst thing you’ve ever done to someone?

I’ve treated someone pretty badly recently. He is this genuinely amazing person and he was trying to give me a precious gift – the most precious gift one can receive in life – and I turned him down. Again and again. That was pretty shitty of me.

You mean Chris?

Yes.

What are you most afraid of?

Losing the people in my life, I guess. My friends and family – I can’t even imagine a life without them. They’re an integral part of me, and if they all left they’d each take a piece of me, and there’d be nothing left, would it?

What’s the most important thing in your life?

See the previous answer. Also, the basis for those sorts of firm and enriching relationships is honesty, I think. So that’s the most important thing. Being genuine in your relationships, no pretending. Being open and honest and real.

What do you like best about Chris? Least?

Oh, wow. What I like best about Chris? He’s this really warm, friendly, good person who can get everyone in a good mood, who will always help a friend out, who’s always there for you, no matter what. He has a sort of innocence in him, like, he’s completely unable of being unkind. Also, his kissing skills are off the charts. So there’s that.

What I like least? Hm … That he leaves his stuff all over the place and never tidies up after himself. Yeah, that’s just … ugh.

How do you feel about your life right now?

Well, it’s complicated. I feel like I have the chance to start something really, really good. But I’m not sure I deserve him. It, I don’t deserve it. (Silence) Okay, him. I admit it. He’s gorgeous in all sorts of ways and I know I don’t deserve him, but … I want him … badly.

Oh, and I’m looking forward to studying Psychology, too.
