Where has this week gone? This is the first A-Z that wasn’t scheduled ahead of time. Better slightly-late than never!
In the world of the Fyrsturae descendants, the roles of the Queen and King are of the utmost importance. Battles, wars, kidnappings, betrayals, and worse have occurred due to disagreements over who should be on the throne.
Even though there are clear – and strict – guidelines as to who can be on the throne, that doesn’t stop certain vampires from attempting to take what’s not theirs.
The King and Queen must be the highest ranking living descendants of the Fyrsturae willing to lead. Often, after several centuries ruling the throne, the couple will decide to retire and live quietly, usually in hiding.
You can read about the kidnapping of a young princess in A Long Time Coming, a short story for 99c (but is also free for my newsletter subscribers along with another short story giving insight into the lengths vampires will go to get on the throne).
You can also read a lot more about the deceit and power struggles in Deception (which is on sale for 99c) or Fallen (which is free).
See the list of all my posts in the A to Z Challenge.

There are always machinations when there is power and royalty – vampire machinations sound like they come with a whole lot more intrigue. 😉

I imagine some people won’t agree with some of the abdications, hence the living in hiding part. Do they have to wait for it all to die down?
