Excerpt

My cell phone rang, startling me. I pulled it out of my pocket, seeing that it was my friend Wade, from California.

“Wade, what’s up?” I asked, sitting down on the bed.

“Dude,” he said. “Are you all right?”

“I guess. Why?”

“You haven’t updated your blog since you moved. At first I thought it was because you were busy, but you can’t go that long without going on a ghost hunt.”

“I’ve been a little distracted.”

“Tell me all about it.”

“Her name’s Mercy.”

There was a pause. “Did I hear that right? Her? A girl? Dude!” Wade yelled in my ear. I held the phone away from me as he continued hollering in surprise.

When he stopped, I put it back to my ear. “I also saw a spirit,” I said and held the phone away as he went off excitedly again. When he quieted down, I put it back to my ear again.

“We both thought this move might be good for you,” he said, “but who would have expected all this! Tell me everything.”
