About the Author

DelSheree Gladden lives in New Mexico with her husband and two children. The Southwest is a big

influence in her writing because of its culture, beauty, and mythology. Local folk lore is strongly rooted

in her writing, particularly ideas of prophecy, destiny, and talents born from natural abilities. When she

is not writing, DelSheree is usually reading, painting, sewing, or working as a Dental Hygienist. Her works

Invisible (The Aerling Series, #1) by DelSheree Gladden

Olivia’s best friend is not imaginary. He’s not a ghost, either. And she’s pretty sure he’s not a

hallucination. He’s just Mason.

He is, however, invisible.

When Olivia spotted the crying little boy on her front porch at five years old, she had no idea she was

the only one who could see him. Twelve years later when new-girl Robin bumps into the both of them

and introduces herself to Mason, they are both stunned.

Mason couldn’t be more pleased that someone else can see him. Olivia, on the other hand, isn’t jumping

at the chance to welcome Robin into their circle. Jealousy may have something to do with

that, but honest fear that Robin’s presence will put Mason in danger is soon validated when a strange

black car shows up outside Olivia’s house.

The race to find out what Robin knows in time to protect Mason from whatever threats are coming

becomes Olivia’s only focus.

 

Interview

Mason and Olivia, care to introduce yourselves to the readers?

Olivia: Who first? Mason, you want to go? It’s not every day you get to talk to people like this.

Mason: (chuckles) True. Sure, I’ll go first. I’m Mason, and I’m not a ghost. I’m not imaginary, although

Olivia’s family was convinced of that at first. And we’ve all agreed I’m not a hallucination. I’m just

invisible.

O: Yeah, he’s invisible, but that’s hardly the most important thing about him.

M: It’s pretty important.

O: Whatever. He’s also great at baseball, loves practical jokes, and is the best friend a girl could ever

have.

M: Friend? When did I slip back into friend status? Has Hayden been hanging around again?

O: (rolls her eyes) You know that’s never going to happen, but you are my best friend.

M: And your boyfriend.

O: Yes, of course. I just thought that was rather obvious.

M: Just to be safe, mention that first next time.

So what about you, Olivia?

O: Me? Well, nothing so special as being invisible. I’m just the girl that can see him. The only one, in fact.

M: Except Robin.

O: (wrinkles her nose) Until Robin showed up, I was the only one who could see Mason. I would have

preferred it stayed that way, actually.

And why is that?

O: Because maybe we wouldn’t have Sentinels trying to hunt us down if Robin had just left us alone.

M: They had already found me before Robin showed up.

O: She certainly didn’t help the situation.

M: She’s trying.

O: (scowls) That’s debatable. I’m not convinced of anything when it comes to Robin except that she’s got

her own agenda.

Who is Robin?

M: She’s…a friend.

O: Friend? (shakes her head) I see we’re using that term very loosely.

M: Robin knows I’m an Aerling.

An Aerling?

O: Mason’s not exactly…human. He came here from another world. At least, that’s what Robin has said.

I’m not claiming she’s a reliable source of information. I certainly don’t trust her.

M: We can trust her about this. I am invisible after all.

O: But she can’t tell us how you got here, or how I’m supposed to take you home, or why your parents

had to send you here in the first place.

M: We’ll figure it out, Olivia. I know we will.

So, being invisible…what’s your typical day like?

M: Like anyone else’s, I suppose. I go to school, do chores, do homework, play catch with Olivia’s dad in

the backyard.

O: (rolls her eyes) There are plenty of differences. Mason can’t really open doors in front of other

people, so he has to wait for me or someone else to do it for him. He can’t carry things around, either,

or it looks like its floating.

M: That does come in handy around Halloween, though.

O: (chuckles) True. We’ve had a lot of fun freaking people out.

M: The biggest difference lately is that the Sentinels are trying to kill me. They hate Aerlings and will do

anything they can to stop me from making it home.

We’ll come back to the Sentinels in a moment. I’m curious about your clothes, though. Do they

disappear, or are you constantly walking around in your birthday suit?

M: (laughs) No, I’m not sitting here talking to you nude. My clothes disappear when I put them on, and

so do things that I put in my pockets, but I can carry the cat around and turn her into Super Kitty no

problem.

O: We didn’t know why it happened like that until recently. There were so many unanswered questions

about Mason that we just had to accept some of his more unusual talents at face value.

M: It turns out that I was actually doing it subconsciously. I used to think being invisible was my only

talent, but it turns out that’s not the case.

O: Not at all. Every Aerling has talents and power to interact with and control the air and weather. They

have to reach a certain level of control before they go home or…well, that’s a whole other conversation.

M: I’m working on improving my control, but I’m trying to cram eighteen years of training into a few

months. It’s just a little bit stressful.

Back to the Sentinels. Who are they and why are they trying to kill you?

M: It’s not just me they’re trying to kill. Olivia is a target as well.

O: I have the power to take Mason back to his family in the Aerling world…or at least I’m supposed to.

I’m getting a little freaked out because I have no idea how it’s supposed to work and no one else does

either.

M: You’ll figure it out.

O: (shakes her head) The Sentinels are the enemies of Aerlings as far as we can tell. We don’t have a

lot of info on them, but their only goal is to keep Aerling children from returning home. They’ll stop at

nothing to make that happen.

the story.
