102,868 fiction words for the month to date! (And that doesn’t count revisions to works in progress that are beyond the first draft stage.)
I can’t believe how far I am into this draft. It was more slow-going than the first novel I wrote this month because I didn’t outline before I started writing. I also didn’t know the characters well yet, and that played into it.
The thing with this series is that each book starts with a new couple, so depending on how well we got to know them in the previous book, it’s easier or harder. This time around, not only did I lack an outline, but I didn’t know the characters at all, either.
Thank goodness for second, third, fourth, and other drafts!
But the good news is that despite not outlining earlier, the outlining that I have done (though not as extensive as the outline for the earlier book) everything is coming together nicely. The characters are colorful and perfect for each other (this is a romance…so that’s a good thing).
Maybe now’s the time to start outlining my next book. It picks up after a pretty major cliffhanger, so that should help me hit the ground running.
