Day Twenty: 150k Words in a Month #NaNoWriMo #My150kNaNo

I’m at 95,782 for the month, so that means I should pass 100k tomorrow! That also means I have about 55k left to write for the month. I’m exactly on target to finish on the 30th.

Today, I wrote a scene involving a fire and I had an interesting thought. Writers struggling with writer’s block should just start a fire (in the story!) and see what the characters do. Other ideas are to have a character walk up to another and punch him or her.

Maybe when I’m done with this blog series, I can write a post like that, with various writing prompts to kick writer’s block. The possibilities are endless.

Of course, outlining and writing story beats will fix writer’s block, but as I’ve proven over the last week, you can run out of time for proper outlining or beats. Hey, writing 150k in a month can do that! I should have outlined everything I planned to write before the month began.

Lesson learned…if I try this crazy adventure again. Right now, I’m really looking forward to some normal 3-4k word days. I’m glad for everything I’ve learned this month. It’s definitely helped to improve my writing and my speed. Now I’m looking forward to a break!

Ten more days.

  1. I would try the fire idea but right now my characters are in the top floor of a warehouse filled with expensive cars. Somehow I think it would shorten the length of the novel. 🙂

It is a good idea though. Maybe in a chapter or two.

    1. I would definitely wait on that one! Maybe you could have them find a dead body. That would get things going.
