Author Interview: Marat M’saev Daan

MaratMoonchild's Smile

Interview

What’s your story? How did you get into writing?
I started writing while I was in High School. For me, it wasn’t easy to be in the cage of military education system. Yeah, you guess right, I have finished Military High School here in Serbia. I can say that that environment wasn’t that healthy not only for me, but for others as well. My get away place was imaginary worlds in various EF books and writing about anything that was coming to my mind.

It just felt right at that moment. First poems were written, I was experimenting with styles and here I am now talking to You. 🙂

What advice do you have for aspiring authors?
Readers like honesty, so try to stick to it. There are a lot of “so called writers” who are writing for fast profit, please don’t be one of them. Write cause you have the talent within you and you want to share messages to the world. Readers do respect that.

What are you working on now?
There are three things I am working on right now. First is promoting my newest book “Moonchild’s Smile”, a collection of poetry written about love and relationships. Second is writing my fourth book. Yet again, it is a poetry, tho this time about people who hurt me in my past and made huge scars on my heart. Finally, third thing I am working on is making plan with few of my friends to create a blog that will be for reviewing books and author/book spotlights only.

What has been the most challenging part of publishing or marketing your book?
The hardest thing one self-published author can do is build a reader base. One should be patient and use all tools can find on the net as social networks, blogs, promotions, etc. It does take a lot of time and energy but in the end it pays off if readers can see talents of that writer.

What has been your favorite part?
My favorite part is always meeting new people all around the globe and talking with them. There are few who were my constant support, tho I have never seen them in my life in person cause we live on different continents. For me, that is priceless!

Who are your favorite authors?
I have three names that will always be at the top: Tolkien, Robert Jordan and George Martin. I am really big fan of EF books and they are really three writers that I do believe no one will ever write as they are (did).

What gave you the idea for your current work?
Every person has one’s ghosts from the past. Mine is pain caused by others. I am writing this book so I could finally get rid of them and find my inner peace. Also, I want to tell my readers “Hey, what they have done, that is not cool! Don’t hurt your loved ones and learn from mistakes that have been made by others!”

If you could be any character in the book, which one would you be?
In all three books I have published, there are no “real” characters cause they are collection of poems and you can’t connect to just one. Although, there is one from novel I have started and set aside for a while till idea is completely finished in my head. His name is Will Goodman and as good as he is, he suffers a lot and life wasn’t kind to him in the past either. Saying this, he still lives his life without doing any harm to anyone and in the end he is rewarded with deserved happiness.

What other books have you written and/or are working on for the future?
I have mentioned newest one “Moonchild’s Smile” already. Other two published books are called “Moment of Truth” and “Carnival of Rust“.

I am working on this fourth collection of poems and I will soon continue to work on my first novel. I admit that I have said after first poetry book that I won’t write poetry again, but I just can’t. It is stronger than me. Hehe

What’s your favorite quote?
“I write only because
There is a voice within me
That will not be still”
― Sylvia Plath

What’s your favorite supernatural creature?
This is a tough one. Hmmm. There are a lot from Dungeons and Dragons, but let me go this time with Moon Elves. I can’t really explain my choice. I really like elves and if we go a bit deeper in their sub-spices this would be my choice. Guess it is cause of their racial traits that can be used in the game.
