Why Buying Ebooks Directly From Authors Matters (and How You Can Do It Easily)

Did you know you can buy ebooks directly from your favorite authors? It supports indie authors in a big way!

Let’s be real for a second. There are a lot of places to buy books these days.

Amazon. Apple. Kobo. Libraries. Subscriptions.

So when an author says, “Hey, you can also buy directly from me,” your first thought might be:

Is that harder?

Fair question. Short answer? Nope. In fact, it’s often better—for both of us.

Why Buying Directly From Authors Matters

When you buy an ebook from a retailer, independent authors typically earn anywhere from 35%–70% of the sale. (Traditional authors typically make much less.)

When you buy direct? That jumps dramatically.

More of your money goes straight to the person who actually wrote the story: the one staying up late plotting twists, falling in love with characters, and probably drinking too much coffee.

It’s one of the simplest ways to support indie authors without spending anything extra.

It makes a bigger difference than you might think.

What You Get as a Reader

This isn’t just about helping authors: you get perks too.

When you buy from my direct store, you often get:

  • Instant delivery (no waiting!)
  • Easy access across devices
  • The ability to download and keep your files
  • Sometimes bonus content, early releases, or special deals

You’re not locked into one ecosystem. You’re in control of your books.

How It Works (It’s Easier Than You Think)

I use Curios to power my direct store, and they’ve made this super simple!

Here’s how it works:

Option 1: Read in the Curios app

  • Download the app
  • Your books are automatically there, ready to read

Option 2: Send to your favorite eReader

  • Kindle? Yep.
  • Kobo? Uh-huh.
  • Other apps? Also yes.

You can download your ebook files and read them however you like.

No tech headaches. No complicated steps.

Why I Chose to Sell Direct

As an indie author, I’m not backed by a big publisher.

Everything (writing, editing, covers, marketing) it all comes out of my own pocket.

Selling direct helps me:

  • Keep more of each sale
  • Invest in better books (covers, editing, ads)
  • Keep writing the stories you love

It also gives me more freedom to offer deals, bundles, and special content I can’t always do on big retailers.

The Bottom Line

If you prefer buying through Amazon or other stores—totally okay. Seriously.

But if you ever want to:

  • Support indie authors more directly
  • Have more control over your ebooks
  • Get occasional extras and perks

Buying direct is a great option.

And I’d love to have you there.
